July 26, 2016 | Stay in Softball Holds Free Clinic in Warren
Stay in Softball held a free clinic for over 60 girls age 8-12 on July 26th at Candlelite Knolls in Warren. The girls learned softball fundamentals from a great group of coaches including Bob Hoiles (Beverly Bandits Team Demarini), Brian Grace and Jerry McDonough (Valley Extreme), Tony Hudson and Dave Flickinger. The coaches held sessions on fielding (infield, outfield, throwing) hitting and base running. SIS volunteers (travel softball players) also assisted the instructors by helping them run drills. Several local rec league coaches attended to learn from the clinic instructors. Parents were encouraged to watch and learn as well.
Like last summer's Warren clinic, the clinic was a huge success. We have received many messages from parents commenting on how much their daughters learned and how much fun they had with the instructors and volunteer players. As one parent noted, "the instructors and volunteers had so much enthusiasm for the sport and for helping the girls. The two hours seemed to go by in no time and my daughter did not want to leave." After the clinic, the SIS volunteers played a brief scrimmage for the girls attending the clinic. We were also fortunate to have 4 ASA umpires donate their time to officiate the scrimmage. The girls were also given free SIS bags and any girl who did not have her own bat, glove or helmet was given a used one to keep so they could continue to practice the skills they learned at home.
We would like to recognize the players and parent volunteers who helped. Players: Maddie Long, Cait Kelm, Brenna Hagerdon, Olivia Kelm, Megan Ward, Rachel Ward, Emily Dlugolinski, Ania Grimm, Marcella McMahon, McKenzie Anderson, Lexi Temple, Meghan McKeogh, Beatrice Titus, Abbi Grace, Emily Darlington, Destiny Blake, Mackenzie Kohl, Olivia Hudson and Madison Hufford. Adult volunteers: Nicki and Paul Hufford, Amber Ricci, Tracy Ricci , Adrienne Kelm, Ronnie Titus, Patrice Darlington, Kim Long, and Tim McKeogh
